Jeremy Hiah
Jeremy Hiah (b.1972 in Singapore, where he still resides) is an interdisciplinary artist and curator whose work questions the social systems within which we live, using satire and an ironic sense of humor. Following his graduation from RMIT/LaSalle-SIA College of the Arts in Singapore, he continued his focus on painting, but later moved to explore different media such as sculpture, installations, and performance, and actively collaborated on many projects with artists across different fields.
His works have been performed and exhibited internationally in Germany, Italy, and Austria for UNESCO Artists in Residence in Vienna, at the Hong Kong Art Center, Vietnam Contemporary Art Center, Indonesia, Australia, Thailand, South Korea, and Denmark. Hiah has also traveled, curated, and been shown extensively in China for exhibitions, festivals, and artists in residency programs.
He was an active organizer and member of The Artists Village, where he previously held the position of Vice President and also served as VP of the Sculpture Society Singapore. With the aim to provide affordable community-oriented cultural spaces, Hiah established the alternative art space Your MOTHER Gallery in 2004 and co-founded the Wuwei Performance Series in 2018. He has also served as the artistic director for the Fetter-Field Performance Art Event and Pulau Ubin Artists Residency Program.
Hiah has held numerous solo and group exhibitions, including at The Post Museum, the Museum of Something in Bangkok, Singapore Art Museum, Sydney Museum of Contemporary Art, Kedai Kebun Forum in Yogyakarta, Chan+Hori Contemporary, Yeos Workshop, Nanyang Academy of Fine Art, Your MOTHER Gallery, Coda Culture, Jendale Gallery, Sundaram Tagore Gallery, and many others.
