Hyunjung Lee
Hyunjung Lee (b.1992, Korea) is an artist who finds solace and personal growth through her artistic endeavors. Lee's artistic expression revolves around harnessing raw emotions to confront and question cultural norms and conventions. Through her art, Lee explores her emotions and seeks personal liberation in the process, whilst her artwork transcends the boundaries of human experience, offering a release from any form of limitation. Lee primarily focuses on creating paintings on paper, effortlessly moving between abstract and figurative forms. The subject she portrays in her artwork originates from a fusion of real-world elements and her vivid imagination.
In addition to her art, Lee also explores the realm of storytelling through the creation of both short and long novels, serving as complementary pieces to her visual work. These novels function as artistic statements, further enriching the narrative behind her painting. In 2021, Lee took a step further in supporting young Korean artists by establishing an artist-run space called 'Gallery Moth.' This space serves as a platform for emerging talents to showcase their work and receive encouragement.
Lee received her BFA in Oriental Painting from Sungshin Women's University in 2017. Over the years, Lee has held numerous solo and group exhibitions in Korea, including the Sian Museum of Art, Hangaram Design Museum, Gallery Coso, Gallery Sisun, and Vidi Gallery
